Integrated Children and Youth Service

Background

Integrated children and youth service has been evolved from children and youth centre service. As early as the 1960s, we provided children and youth centre service at Lei Cheng Uk Estate in Shamshuipo District and then expanded to Tsimshatsui, Kwun Tong and North Point Districts. In 1995, the Government implemented a new policy to promote integration of different youth services. Thus, we pooled together our youth services in Shamshuipo District and formed the Lei Cheung Uk and So Uk Integrated Team, which was named as Happy Teens Club. In the 2000s, all our children and youth centres were restructured and integrated with other youth service resources, forming three more integrated children and youth service units, namely Kwun Tong Happy Teens Club, North Point Happy Teens Club and Shamshuipo West Happy Teens Club. Moreover, the Lei Cheng Uk and So Uk Integrated Team was renamed as Shamshuipo Central Happy Teens Club.

Our integrated children and youth service concerns the holistic development of children and youth, aiming at assisting them to become happy, self-actualised, caring and contributive members of the society. The four Happy Teens Clubs provide four kinds of core services including guidance and counselling, supportive services for young people in disadvantaged circumstances, socialisation programmes and programmes for development of social responsibility and competence. We particularly care for the disadvantaged and the neglected teenagers; and the provision of supportive services for hidden youth and young night drifters by our Shamshuipo Central Happy Teens Club are examples.

Service Targets

Children and youth aged 6 to 24 and their families, who are living or studying in Shamshuipo, North Point and Kwun Tong Districts.
