Jockey Club Baby Blossom Project

Introduction

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the four-year project Jockey Club Baby Blossom Project was launched in April 2023. The project is jointly conducted by the Brain and Mind Institute of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Christian Service. It aims to use the KeySteps@JC Community Hub in Sham Shui Po facilities to extend the service and support to families in need with children aged 0-2 by providing “Reaching Out” and “Bridging In” services so as to advocate a more comprehensive service model for these families and to build a stronger foundation for the children’s growth and development.

Service Objectives

The project aims to provide holistic support including “Reaching-Out” (referring to services that reach out to these families) & “Bridging-In” (referring to services that provide these families with access to the Hub and other community services) services for children and parents in need to achieve the following objectives:

• Child-level: Facilitate the growth and development of the children so as to build a stronger foundation for better life outcomes. 
• Family-level: Enhance and improve the growth environment of children by enhancing knowledge, attitude and skills of families through the support of multi-disciplinary teams.
• Community-level: Collaborate with KeySteps@JC Community Hub in Sham Shui Po and other community partners in the Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Mong districts to build a support network for children.
• Sector-level: Establish the very first service model in Hong Kong informed by a cognitive science framework and develop a quality parent-infant stimulation program focusing on prenatal to 0-35 months. 

Service Contents

• Developmental need Screening - Parental interviews and infant developmental screening;
• Home visitation by multidisciplinary professionals;
• Child developmental monitoring, screening and assessment;
• Parent and Infant Stimulation Programme;
• Community Hub services (language and cognitive development program, sensory stimulation programme, parent-infant free play); 
• Maternal Care Assistant Training; and
• Health and emotional support services for parents.

Service Targets

Pregnant women and families with 0–2-year-old children who live in Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Mong, with the special needs shown as below will be targeted:

• Parents demonstrating symptoms of prenatal or postnatal depression and anxiety;
• Parents with children under the care of the Comprehensive Child Development Service (CCDS) in Kowloon West (Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Mong);
• Preterm/ Premature infants (less than 37 weeks) or early term infants (37-39 weeks) ; 
• Infants with sibling(s) diagnosed with special education needs (SEN); or
• Infants with disadvantaging developmental factors
• Other parents/infants who need additional support referred by professionals/stakeholders.

Withdrawal

• Service users can withdraw from the service by giving verbal or written notification to the Team. 
• Service users can contact the Team for withdrawal from groups or programmes.

Monday	9:00am to 1:00pm; 2:00pm to 5:00pm
Tuesday to Friday	9:00am to 1:00pm; 2:00pm to 6:00pm
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays	Closed (Except scheduled activities)
